Come out of our Comfort Zone

In the current scenario in Kerala we can see a tendency among graduates and students running behind short term courses to land in a Government Job. Among them a good percentage hold a professional degree such as BTech., Mtech., MBA, MCA etc. This point is the real reason which forced me to write this article. The main psychological factor behind this would be the job security and social status expected on a long term basis. Even though professional students could land in lucrative careers or could start their own ventures in the very next day of their exam without waiting for the results to turn up, they end up with such colorless dreams, which I rate as a real tragedy. I intentionally used the term tragedy with the reality I grabbed out of my 14 years of experience from Industry, professional education and training. At first I would like to ask a question. “ What is the position of our state Kerala among other states in India based on GDP, a measurement  of overall development”. A few answers would be like “this is not taught in my college”, or “why should I be bothered about this” among a few correct answers. I have learned that we are in 13th position with 3.96 lakh crore rupees (US$59 billion) among other States in India.
Let me ask you one more question. “What is our position based on Human Development Index in India”. We can proudly say that we are in the first position. I hope the answers to the previous questions might have triggered some doubts in you mind in terms of the chronological positions. The same is my concern about the future of our state. The answer to this issue is the attitude of our students and graduates who show a blind eye towards the seamless opportunities lay right in front of them.
The top State in terms of human resources, Kerala is nowhere in the IT landscape if we consider top six IT hubs in the country. Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Pune take the top positions in the list.
In terms of GDP, the position of India among other countries in the world is 7th, which is a great honor for us. A study conducted in 2006 says that 40% of GDP of India comes directly from IT exports alone. In another study conducted in 2013 says that 57% of GDP comes from service sector and IT services tops the list. From this it is evident that IT is the largest private sector employer in India. According to NASSOCM, India ranks 3rd in global startup echo system with 4,200 new-age companies and three to four startups being born every day, and nearly five billion dollars of funding coming in 2015. In the middle of these amazing statistical figures, still we are not ready to open our eyes and start our own venturs.
Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) under Government of Kerala has come up with the concept of IEDC( Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell) and Kerala Startup Village has introduced the concept of “StartInCollege” with an eye towards the overall development of the state through IT and other Start ups and raising the GDP contribution in line of IT and other services.
So it is high time to rethink and wake up to the dreams of great visionaries like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who thought of a developed India by 2020. It is long overdue for us to come out of our comfort zone and work extra hours in our Colleges and Organizations to grab maximum skills to take up great responsibilities in our shoulders which an unprivileged common man can never dream about, and only a professional can do. With the skill sets and opportunities to become a job creator, we are wandering around for a job. This scenario should change and for which we should pledge to sacrifice our luxuries and comfort zones for a short period in our life.

Harnessing Information Technology for the Welfare of Society

When we think about IT, or computer the images which flash through our mind would be facebook, twitter, whatsapp etc. The reason for this is that we are so close to these tools. Yes we can do great things for the welfare of underprivileged through these tools.

But the quantum of time earmarked for the same is too short as compared to entertainment. If we could allocate some more time, wonders will happen.

We used to forward messages from groups containing contents related with charity. Facebook will do great in this perspective, since they are addressing more people than whatsapp.

The knowledge we grabbed can be shared through online media like blogs (blogger.com by Google), social networks (facebook, twitter, whatsapp etc).

We can help underprivileged through reach out programs, networking etc.

Helping meritorious students to grab scholarships would be a nice idea.

Helping economically challenged one's to meet CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) departments in public or private firms would be a nice idea.

The list would be so lengthier...

Come and do great things will zero investments... help poor to reach their goals...

A dream that everyone should see

"I wish to see people around me live in harmony and happiness". Happiness is hard to define. That can be money, job, food, cloth which bring happiness to one.
What is more specific about such a dream? . In one of my post, I mentioned about controlling anger using such a simple technique. The positive energy earned by such a thought will turn magical in our life.
We will feel relaxed in every walks of our life. We will start giving priority to our friends, relatives, passers by etc
Our full potential can be channelized to our interested areas, no energy will be wasted for ill feelings.
We will turn as torch bearers of young generation.

Parents should help kids to grow with Skills [Will be updated soon]

Skills are sought by Employers, not marks. Bit confusing right?
During my childhood days, my father put special attention in helping me and my brother to attend various stage programs and literal activities. He guided us in preparing speeches, poems, essays etc . Even though I grabbed not much prizes, I was growing with skills unknowingly. While I was pursuing my graduation at College of Applied Science, Adoor I realized my ability to take classes. It was during a seminar session that I noted that without much stage fright  I managed the session.
I thank to my parents.
The same opportunities must be provided to the younger generation from their child hood days itself. Teachers and NGO's should help underprivileged students to elucidate the steps in this process.
Let them grow with skills.

Importance of Planning [Will be updated soon]

Planning is equally important for adults and students. Never start your day without a plan. See amazing results.

Great hobby to practice [not completed]

A hobby is something we sought after for leisure.
That should be something which will certainly help alleviate our mental issues and feel relaxed. I want to write on something innovative in that line.
We could see kids who have early gift for rhetoric in debates and group discussions.

One soluton for one million mental problems

I used to think about , what would be end of mental sorrows. Physical wounds will heal as time passes. But what about mental agonies. To spell a few, " I am not liked by anyone", "I am not handsome", "I am not educated", "I have no relatives", "My friend always yell me", "My parents don't like me", "I don't want to spend money for anyone, not even in my family", " I am childless", the list growns till deluge.

Can there be one solution.

Yes I strongly believe mine is good and practical. I experienced that. I hope to suggest that .
Let me give you one life situation beforehand. Hope you are hurrying to attend an interview. You are a short tempered person. On your way you come across a passerby who deliberately intrude your private space and triggers your anger. But you will surprisingly pay no attention to this full-on onslaught as your head is full of interview which is going to happen soon. You keep patience for the reason that your dreams may have been short-lived.

Now think again. Your personal traits took leave for a while for a noble cause, your interview. Now apply the same in a longer spectrum. Fix great goals in your life such as "Make my own life memorable among the society through social work", " Spend free time among the youth to train them the skills which I grabbed over the past few years", "help all my underprivileged family members", "see the world is happy", etc.

These goals will certainly keep you away from miseries and self made issues. You will transform yourself as a human from ill mannered. Your thought about a flourished and recognized life will keep you away from childish mental agonies and feel laughter about your past actions.

Social Responsibilty

In my opinion the biggest responsibility is none other than Social Responsibility. If somebody ask me a question like "why they are poor?" or "why that country is poor", my answer would be lack of social responsibility among the privileged people.
One is privileged if he is free in terms of knowledge and money. So he is obliged to raise the underprivileged. What he can do is to come out of his comfort zone and equip the needy. But the big question is "Why it is not happening in full?".
Most of the people are having the mentality to help others but hardly get materialized. He will be taken back by a lot of thoughts like "will I  be cheated?", "what others in my family will think about it?" "Whether I will go bankrupt?" "Whether I will get assistance from Government?". The infinite number of thoughts will start flowing the moment he start thinking of helping.
I hope this might be the reason. Unwanted thoughts to be rubbished. Where we lost our stellar energies.
At least once in a year we should come out of our niche zone and expedite. If we could change the course of life of a person for good, what else to earn. The knowledge you grabbed over years can be shared.
I suggest to help in terms of education. If educated one can turn as the bread winner to save the whole family. Is that not enough? Wow. If one employed could help at least one per year he could have transformed more than 30 young minds. And the difference would be those 30 will start reciprocate adopting or inheriting the same good mindedness.
I believe God is with those who act for his kids, not simply offering something for his own benefit.

How to control Anger - a student perspective

One of my students asked me " Sir I get angry all of a sudden, can you help me". I was dealing with my computer project that time. I stopped that for a while and turned back to her. Are you serious. Yes Sir. Ok. Listen.

Imagine you are driving a bike. All of a sudden you break and successfully balance the bike. Why you didn't loose your balance. At the same time your friend lost her balance sitting just to you. Think and give me the answer.
She replied "Sir as I broke, I was fully aware of that and could act accordingly".
Yes that is the answer. I replied.
If you want to control yourself, be aware of situations ahead and anticipate such negative situations. That will help you keep a balanced mind and save you from outburst.
For example, if you have a habit of getting angry with your sister, then before stepping in the home just anticipate a situation where your sister may create a negative environment for you to react and you willfully keep balance and at the same time imagine in your mind that you are facing the situation with a smile.
Persist on this. You will be the happiest person in this world. Adopt the same technique in all your endeavors you have a longing for.

Only you can save you from worldly sorrows and miseries. No body else. A person who could control himself could control the world....
